Jazz Massive

Sunday 3 June, 11:00am
State Library Victoria Lawn

Calling all musicians young and old, big and small, to join in a jam session like no other, as we bring jazz out of the club and onto the street.

If you have registered to play, please head to out BLOG to learn, How To Be Massive.

Bring your clarinet, your kazoo, your voice or your violin, and gather on the lawn at the State Library to perform the world premiere of brand new music commissioned specially for this mass music-making celebration that everyone can be a part of. Have you ever wanted to play at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival? Now’s your chance to take your place on centre stage.

Come join players from the Horns of Leroy, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Papa Chango and more at Jazz Massive! Whether it’s your festival debut or you’ve played a thousand gigs in the jazz clubs of Melbourne – bring your instruments of all shapes and sizes to the State Library on Sunday 3 June. This is a jazz flash-mob unlike anything seen in Australia before and this is your opportunity to get involved.

MIJF is incredibly excited to announce that Tamil Rogeon (The Raah Project / True Live) has been commissioned to compose and conduct this special, one-off event.

This is Guerrilla Jazz – 15 minutes of music that’s never been heard or rehearsed for up to 200 musicians playing together for the first time at the iconic State Library Victoria. Popping up and then disappearing into the afternoon…All instruments welcome. All levels of musician welcome. Lovers of music – this is for you.

Register your interest HERE so we can keep you in the loop. There will be parts to learn if you want to – but don’t worry – you can still turn up on the day and learn what you need.

If you want to come and watch something never before seen but prefer not to play – come along and experience this unique one-off event.
