CHARLIE HADEN, BILL FRISELL, ETHAN IVERSON TRIO (USA)
This historic trio premiered at the legendary Newport Jazz Festival in 2008 as a one-off exclusive appearance. The Trio combines multi Grammy award winning jazz double bass icon Charlie Haden, fellow Grammy winner and contemporary jazz guitarist Bill Frisell and next-generation pianist Ethan Iverson of irreverent New York Trio, The Bad Plus. The sheer beauty and artistry of the project will take you on an extraordinary improvised jazz journey through sound and space. Uniting a cross-generational trio of jazz legends, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival is honoured to bring this exclusive project to Australia for the second ever performance in a concert setting.

Charlie Haden, 71, is a towering figure in the jazz world. A multiple Grammy award winning artist, he has worked with some of jazz's most revered and influential players including Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Carla Bley, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny. Charlie Haden has continued to innovate and push musical boundaries since the 1950s whether playing free jazz, pop or country.

In a career spanning more than 25 years and over 150 recordings, guitarist, composer, and bandleader Bill Frisell has established himself as a visionary presence in American music. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Caetano Veloso, Rickie Lee Jones, Bono, Elvin Jones, Paul Motion and Joe Lovano, and worked with legendary filmmakers including Wim Wenders and Gus Van Sant.

Frisell and Haden are joined by highly respected pianist Ethan Iverson. Best known for his trio The Bad Plus, Iverson has been garnering increasing accolades for his work with the likes of Paul Motian, Dave Douglas, and now Charlie Haden and Bill Frisell.
