Be a part of the huge opening night celebrations!
The Melbourne International Jazz Festival invites families, music lovers, emerging artists, first time concert goers and seasoned punters to join the celebrations of the Festival’s Opening Night Concert in Federation Square. Staged in the heart of Melbourne’s arts precinct, this free concert features a stellar line-up of some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians.
Frock up and get dancing to the 1930s old-world charms of The Mell-O-Tones swing orchestra together with performances and dance lessons from Swing Patrol.
Keep moving to the raucous rhythms and irresistible horns of Italy’s Actis Dato Quartet.
They will thrill you with their extraordinarily infectious melodies combining jazz and afro funk rhythms together with eastern European sounds and Italian folk songs.
And finally, as the crowning feature of the night, experience the world first performance of living legend Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra featuring Australia’s leading jazz musicians in a one-off performance.
And, it’s all free!
