DOUBLE HEADLINE: OEHLERS / HARLAND / ROGERS / GRABOWSKY (USA / AUSTRALIA) + JASON MORAN: SOLO PIANO (USA)
Australian saxophonist Jamie Oehlers and American drummer Eric Harland come together in a first-time collaboration specially commissioned by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Both equally propelled by virtuosic technical strength and creative invention, Oehlers and Harland have admired each other's playing from afar, but never had the chance to collaborate until now. Who better to join them than jazz heavyweights and respective long-time colleagues, Australian pianist Paul Grabowsky and US bassist Reuben Rogers for a concert that explores the far reaches of group improvisation alongside much loved jazz standard repertoire.
Internationally acclaimed as a 'modern master' of music (Jazztimes), pianist Jason Moran's significance as a leading voice in jazz must be heard to be believed. His creative curiosity has led him to incorporate disparate elements of early jazz and contemporary classical exploration, establishing him as one of the key pianists of his generation. Moran makes his Australian debut in this exclusive solo piano performance.
A concert featuring five musicians of this calibre does not come along often. Don't miss out on what's set to be one of the highlights of the 2010 Festival.
