Two of the smoothest jazz voices in Australia come together for an evening of sublime music, accompanied by the acclaimed Joe Ruberto Trio.
From Ella Fitzgerald to Billie Holiday, the spirit of the great female jazz vocalists is brought to life in the captivating voice of Yvette Johansson. Performing timeless jazz classics and dreamy Latin tunes, her regular appearances at Bennetts Lane have made her one of the most popular artists on the Melbourne jazz scene. Blending remarkable mimicry with detailed research and a dynamic style, Johansson performed sell-out shows at the 2003 and 2004 Melbourne International Jazz Festivals and has recently recorded her first studio album, Quotes from the Green Room (on Bennetts Lane Records) with The Joe Ruberto Trio.
Brisbane singer/songwriter Mark Sholtez recorded his 2006 debut album Real Street in New York City, immediately following his signing to US record label, Verve. With legendary jazz producer Tommy LiPuma on board, it debuted in the ARIA Jazz and Blues chart at number one and stayed there for 10 consecutive weeks and was nominated for an ARIA award that same year. Having supported the likes of Diana Krall and Madeline Peyroux, Sholtez is a masterful tunesmith and a magnetic performer who can sell a song with the poise and confidence of a veteran.
