Lunchtime Jazz at University Square

University Square, Carlton

FREE

Slide into the weekend early with a sun-drenched mix of funky, dreamy and groovy live sounds at Carlton’s University Square. Escape the office, grab a picnic, and kick back as two of Melbourne’s best bring the springtime vibes.

12:00PM – Ex-Olympian

Much like his namesake (the neon sign that adorns ‘Borsari’s Corner’ in Lygon Street), multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ex-Olympian is a shining light in Australia’s neo-soul jazz scene. With his sound officially coined as “Dream Funk” by Northside Records’ godfather Chris Gill, Ex-Olympian fuses soaring melodies with lush arrangements, weaving in cues from influences such as BADBADNOTGOOD, Arthur Verocai and The Avalanches.

1:30PM – Emma Volard

One of Melbourne’s most enigmatic and staunchly authentic artists, Emma Volard is renowned for pushing the boundaries of soul through her indelible hooks and silken vocals. Since her debut album Deity was met with national acclaim in 2022, Emma has continued to electrify audiences across Melbourne with her distinct bricolage of acid jazz, modern R&B, and future soul with old-fashioned grooves.
