Shannon Barnett Quartet

The JazzLab

German precision with an Australian twist.

“…a soul-meltingly communicative brass player” – Free Jazz Collective

Cologne-based Australian trombonist and composer Shannon Barnett and her German ensemble will hit the stage for a very special night at the JazzLab––their first Australian performances as a quartet in over seven years.

After living and performing in NYC, Barnett moved to Germany to join the WDR Big Band and subsequently formed her eponymous quartet. The band has since released three albums and toured throughout Europe and Australia.

In 2020 Barnett received the WDR Jazz Prize for Improvisation and in 2022 the German Jazz Prize in the brass instrument category. While establishing herself as a vital player in the German jazz scene, she has worked with some of the biggest names in international jazz including Ron Carter, Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza, Maceo Parker, Jimmy Heath and Jacob Collier.

Expect an extraordinary performance that merges German precision with Barnett’s uniquely Australian humour and approach.
