“Bill Frisell plays the guitar the way Miles Davis played the trumpet” – The New Yorker

Mesmerising, elegant and electric, GRAMMY-winning jazz guitarist Bill Frisell returns to Melbourne for an exclusive six-show residency at The JazzLab.

For over 40 years, the extraordinarily original and prolific Frisell has been a towering figure in jazz, renowned for his deeply lyrical playing, versatility and expansive musical vision. His work seamlessly blends the warmth of folk and country, the abstraction of the avant-garde and the raw emotion of blues and rock, while always remaining true to his roots in jazz.

Hailed as “the most innovative and influential jazz guitarist of the past 25 years” (Wall Street Journal) and a twelve-time Best Guitarist winner in the DownBeat Critics Poll, Frisell’s storied career has seen him contribute to projects with fellow jazz luminaries John Scofield, Chick Corea, Ron Carter, Dave Holland and Charlie Haden, and collaborate with popular artists Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Sting, Bono and Bonnie Raitt.

For this intimate JazzLab residency, Frisell reunites with longtime collaborators Thomas Morgan (bass) and Rudy Royston (drums) to perform selections from their acclaimed Blue Note release, Valentine, hailed by DownBeat as a modern “masterpiece.”
