When is the Melbourne International Jazz Festival?
The 2021 Melbourne International Jazz Festival will now take place from 2 – 5 December 2021.
Will there be an ‘in person’ MIJF in 2021?
Yes! Following advice from the Victorian Government, we were unable to proceed with our festival as planned in October, but we’re still going ahead with an in person festival this year. We’ll be back from 2 – 5 December 2021. There will be digital access some to events, but you’ll be able to see shows live on stage and in person.
The safety of our artists, audiences and staff is our number one priority. We’re following Victorian Government guidance and working with our venues to make sure that all events presented as part of the Festival are COVID-Safe.
When can I get tickets?
Tickets for our rescheduled program will go on-sale at 9am 22 October.
See our ticketing page for more information on how to buy tickets.
Are there any free events?
Yes, around a third of our program each year is free to the public. Many of these events are un-ticketed, so you don’t need to get a ticket, just turn up and enjoy.
Will there be any online or streamed performances?
Yes, selected performances from the program will be streamed or available online. Tickets will go on-sale for these performances in the coming weeks. All the details will be announced soon through this website as well as our social media and eNews.

What happens if an event is cancelled due to COVID restrictions?
In the event that COVID restrictions require us to cancel, reschedule or restrict capacities at one or more shows, ticketholders will be contacted directly with instructions and options for their purchase.
Ok, but what happens if I can’t make it to a show due to illness, boarder closures or other COVID related mishaps?
We know this is a weird year so we’ve introduced some flexibility to our ticketing policy so you can book with confidence. We want everyone at our Festival to be safe and happy, so if you can’t make it, just get in touch with us as soon as you know you can’t make it and we’ll talk you through your options.
You can contact our friendly ticketing team by email as at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 03 9001 1388.

If you purchased your ticket through the venue or an authorised seller, you’ll need to contact them directly.
Will I need to be vaccinated to attend MIJF in 2021?
It is our expectation that audiences at all MIJF events during our festival in 2021 will be required to show proof of vaccination in order to attend, as outlined in the Victorian Government roadmap. We are currently working with the Victorian Government and our partner venues on how this requirement will be implemented and will provide updates as they becomes available. We anticipate that vaccination exemptions will be limited to those with a valid reason as determined by the public health team.
What happens if I’m running late?
The Festival and Venues reserve the right to exclude latecomers or admit them only if there is a suitable moment in the performance.
Make sure you check the time and venue on your ticket carefully.
We regret that we are unable to provide refunds if you miss the event.
I’m interested in getting involved.
There are lots of ways to get involved in the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
Volunteering: Our festival would not be possible without the dedicated group of volunteers who give their time and skills during and in the lead up to the festival. Volunteer applications will open through this website in early August 2021. More information about the MIJF volunteer program can be found here.
Employment: MIJF has a small year-round team. Each year we have a limited number of contract positions that are advertised in the lead up to the festival. Opportunities are advertised on the Employment section of our website here and also through our enews and social media.
Performing: MIJF is a fully curated event, as such invitations to perform are extended by the Festival’s Artistic Director and there is no open registration process. If you are interested in participating as a performer we do take expressions of interest for specific projects. More information can be found on our Artist Enquiry page here.
