“…a serious talent pushing the limits” – NPR
Invisible Threads is a daring new work from jazz powerhouse and GRAMMY-winning bassist-composer Linda May Han Oh, featuring trailblazing vocalist and media artist Pamela Z (USA). This unmissable Melbourne International Jazz Festival commission explores the unseen forces that connect us — memory, emotion and shared experience — through an electrifying fusion of music, visuals and storytelling, brought to life by a line-up of visionary artists.
One of the most innovative bassists in New York’s jazz scene, Oh has recorded and performed with many prolific jazz artists over the years including Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron and Terri Lyne Carrington, and was featured on bass for Pixar’s 2020 film Soul alongside Jon Batiste and drummer Roy Haynes. Her pioneering artistry has earned her numerous accolades across her career, including the 2023 Herb Alpert Award, the Jazz Journalists Association ‘Bassist of the Year’ seven times and an Honorary Doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music.
In Invisible Threads, Oh explores the vital connections between us all, alongside the multi-award-winning Pamela Z, acclaimed illustrator Keith Henry Brown (USA) and leading Australian jazz artists Andrea Keller, Mat Jodrell, Steve Magnusson and Ben Vanderwal. This world premiere performance is one not to be missed.
