Michelle Nicolle Quartet

Jazz vocalist and improviser extraordinaire Michelle Nicolle proved herself many years ago as one of Australia’s most gifted and expressive jazz vocalists. Warranting comparisons to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, and Mel Tormé, Nicolle is a jazz singer in the true jazz tradition – a creative and masterful improviser with the technique to match any instrumentalist. Having released 9 studio albums and toured extensively to much critical acclaim – including gracing the stages of major international festivals such as Tokyo Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Jarasum Jazz Festival – Nicolle’s talent is undeniably world-class.

For this very special MIJF performance, Michelle Nicolle is joined by her quartet to present a collection of original work that exemplifies her great skill as both a composer and performer, with a wide-ranging repertoire of songs which draw inspiration from the Great American songbook, as well as contemporary compositions that embody the spirit of today.
