Rita Marcotulli

Chapel Off Chapel

Grand master of Italian jazz, Rita Marcotulli makes her long-awaited Australian debut, showcasing a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades as a pianist and composer.

Rita Marcotulli catapulted into the spotlight in the 1980s, through a series of high-profile collaborations with artists including Richard Galliano, Chet Baker and Enrico Rava, a nomination for Best Young Talent in the NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll, and a major US and European tour with drummer Billy Cobham. Since then, she has collaborated and formed long-term musical partnerships with legendary jazz artists such as Pat Metheny, Dewey Redman and Joe Lovano, and composed music for several acclaimed films.

Marcotulli’s impeccable technique and effortless style — drawing on folk and pop as well as seminal jazz influences like Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane — have earned her a reputation as one of Europe’s most distinctive and expressive jazz voices.
