“Since arriving in New York City in 1999, Cuban saxophonist, percussionist and composer Yosvany Terry has helped redefine Latin Jazz as a complex new idiom” – The New York Times.
Cuban saxophonist, percussionist and composer Yosvany Terry has built an internationally acclaimed career at the intersection of Cuban musical traditions and contemporary jazz. A Doris Duke Artist Award recipient and GRAMMY-nominated bandleader, Terry has collaborated with artists including Steve Coleman, Roy Hargrove, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Vijay Iyer, Eddie Palmieri and Branford Marsalis, establishing himself as one of the most distinctive voices in modern Latin jazz.
For this special JazzLab performance, Terry is joined by his brother Yunior Terry (double bass), Julian Miltenberger (drums) and Brett Williams (piano). The quartet explores the meeting point of Cuban rhythmic traditions, African musical influences and New York’s vibrant jazz culture, creating music that is both rhythmically explosive and boldly contemporary.
