Take 5: All-Australian In November

Just like Dave Brubeck, we’re taking five each month to give you the scoop on five things we’re excited about.

November is Ausmusic Month so this edition celebrates all things Aus – the return of our pub-trivia dream team, an excuse to dress the part, movie real-life stories from Australian legends and a collection of outstanding live recordings.

OG Spicks and Specks returns in time to celebrate Ausmusic Month

Music nerds of Australia rejoice! The ABC’s beloved music trivia show is reuniting the original hosts – Adam HillsMyf Warhurst and Alan Brough – in a small-screen special to celebrate Ausmusic Month. The show first aired between 2005-2011, returned in 2014 with new hosts and then again in 2018 with the original trio in what became the most-watched show of that year on the ABC.

This episode is the first in a series of specials scheduled to screen in 2020.

Screening on Sunday, 24 November at 7:40 on the ABC TV

Jazz Calls: the Best of Australian Jazz 2019

Elsewhere in Ausmusic Month, ABC Jazz has released a digital collection of their favourite recordings captured for broadcast in 2018 and 2019. It’s a celebration of Australia’s diverse musical culture and features many of the leading voices in Australian jazz.

We’ll be wearing our very best for #AusmusicTShirtDay

Nothing says enduring love like merch. Celebrate your favourite Australian artists on #AusmusicTShirtDay Friday, 15 November by wearing your heart on your shirt. The initiative partners with the charity organisation Support Act to raise funds for music industry workers experiencing hardship due to ill health, injury or mental health issues. You can participate solo or a create team (casual Friday eat your heart out).

Tell Me Why: the Story of My Life and My Music

Few other artists are able to convey the joy, pain and shining hope of his generation quite like Archie Roach. His moving, intimate, and at times, shocking memoir details the many lives lived by this Australian-music icon: stolen child, seeker, lover, leader. Roach’s story is an extraordinary odyssey through love and heartbreak to community and renewal – and of course music.

Book and album released 1 November
