Dee Dee Bridgewater

with Helen Sung

Arts Centre Melbourne, Hamer Hall

“One of American jazz’s foremost voices… a career that spans four decades and has never stopped evolving.” — The Guardian

Dee Dee Bridgewater is one of the great vocalists of modern music, renowned for her distinctive interpretations of classic songs and inventive reworkings of jazz repertoire. For MIJF 2026, the three-time GRAMMY Award-winner returns to Melbourne for the first time in a decade.

Across a multifaceted career spanning four decades, she has performed and recorded with artists including Max Roach, Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gillespie, received a Tony Award for her role as Glinda in The Wiz and received too many honours to count, including the prestigious Doris Duke Artist Award, a NEA Jazz Masters Fellow Award and induction into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.

Joining Dee Dee Bridgewater on stage is acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Helen Sung, a Guggenheim Fellow whose music bridges jazz and classical traditions. Together, they explore a rich program spanning eras and genres, from classics of the Great American Songbook to music by Duke Ellington, Stephen Sondheim, Michel Legrand and Paul Simon.

Settle in for an intimate evening at Hamer Hall as two remarkable artists come together for a rare Melbourne appearance.
