ABC Jazz Live: Eugene Ball’s ‘Continuum’ + Hyperbaroq

Celebrating 50 years of Jazztrack

The JazzLab

A celebration of Australia’s longest running national jazz radio program, featuring Eugene Ball and Hyperbaroq.

Multi-award-winning trumpeter, composer and arranger Eugene Ball premieres Continuum: Jazztrack at 50, a new work commissioned by ABC Jazz and a personal musical reflection on the enduring influence of Jazztrack, Australia’s longest running national jazz radio program. Across a career spanning more than three decades, Ball has performed, recorded and collaborated with some of the most revered artists in Australia and internationally. He is celebrated for his musical breadth and distinctive voice — characterised by a wide-ranging timbral palette, a refined sense of space, emotional depth, and an undercurrent of wit and humour.

Closing the afternoon is Hyperbaroq, the collaboration between Mirko Guerrini, Ilaria Crociani and Stephen Magnusson. The virtuosic trio brings its own distinctive perspective to Baroque music, utilising looping, sampling and electronic textures to create work that is “as powerful now as it was four centuries ago” (The Age).
